Marathon Man
Robert W. Herman of West Tisbury competed in and completed the 33rd Cape Cod marathon on Oct. 31 in Falmouth.
Anna Markwica in Ecuador
Edgartown resident Anna Markwica is currently studying abroad through the Boston University’s international programs office. An early childhood education major, Anna will be in Ecuador through the end of the fall 2010 semester. She is scheduled to graduate in 2011.

The featured animal this week at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is a black Lab cross named Nina. Nina is a handsome black dog with the most beautiful velvet coat. She came to the shelter from a Lab rescue. She loves people, cats and other dogs. She loves to ride in cars and would be the perfect pet for anyone looking for a real buddy. Please stop by to see Nina and take her for a walk.
Andora Aquino
Andora Justino Buzetti Aquino, of Vineyard Haven, daughter of Mr. Marcio S. Aquino and Ms. Joelma J. Buzetti, is among the 853 students who entered Colgate University with the Class of 2014 in late August. The class, selected from an applicant pool of almost 7,900 students, is the most diverse to enroll at Colgate.
Andora is a graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.
Julie Pringle
Julie Pringle of Vineyard Haven, a current freshman at Tufts University, has been awarded the designation of AP Scholar with Distinction for her high scores on the seven advanced placement exams she completed over her years at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.
Avery Arrives
Brianna and Christopher Flanders of Buzzards Bay announce the birth of a daughter, Avery Paige Flanders, born on Oct. 10, 2010. She is welcomed by big sister Alanna. Proud grandparents are Noreen and Brian Flanders of Vineyard Haven, with great-grandparent honors going to Florence Flanders of Vineyard Haven and Lorraine and Richard Mavro of Oak Bluffs.
