Celebrations
For the past 13 years, Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation has been working to restore the farm fields at Nat’s Farm in West Tisbury to native grassland, using prescribed fire and mowing.
In areas that have not been burned or mowed, there are hundreds of small cedars from eight to 36 inches tall.
Ambulance Open House
The Tisbury volunteer ambulance service will celebrate National Emergency Medical Services Week with an open house on Saturday, May 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tisbury police and ambulance facility at the Water street parking lot next to the Stop & Shop in Vineyard Haven. Preschool Grant Offer
The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation of Getzville, N.Y., is prepared to provide grants to organizations operating preschools on the Vineyard. The grants would go to the purchase of age-appropriate classroom equipment and technology for use by children ages three to five to promote the development of language and literacy skills. Breese Architects Featured
In Book At Home by the Sea
Breese Architects of Vineyard Haven is featured in a new book of work by the renowned photographer Brian Vanden Brink. The book, At Home by the Sea, examines the unique design of Atlantic Coast homes from Nova Scotia to the Caribbean. The Breese Architects article focuses on designing and siting a home with minimal disruption of a coastal bank and numerous water views.
Peace Council
The Martha’s Vineyard Peace Council will meet on Thursday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Grace Church in Vineyard Haven. The council will evaluate the Iraq resolution voted on in Island town meeting voting and plan for summer projects. All are welcome. Call 508-627-8536 for more information.
Architects Win Awards
Hutker Architects of Vineyard Haven and Falmouth has won two merit awards in the 2008 Custom Home Design Awards program for a residence and a kitchen.
