Welcome Christopher

Rubiana and Maxlei Barbosa of Edgartown announce the birth of a son, Christopher Amaro Barbosa, on Nov. 16 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Christopher weighed 8 pounds, 15 ounces at birth.

The annual Oak Bluffs tree lighting ceremony in Oak Bluffs will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Post Office Square. The community is invited to join in the caroling, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Vineyard Classic Brass Ensemble will perform a medley of traditional holiday carols and board of selectmen chairman Greg Coogan will officially light the town tree.

Organic Turkeys

The Farm Institute and Family Farms Organic have teamed up to bring you the most delicious turkey for your friends, family or your local food bank.

When you buy a 12 to 16-pound organic turkey from Family Farms Organic for $100, Family Farms will donate approximately 25 per cent of the purchase price back to the Farm Institute, and then they’ll deliver your turkey direct to your home or to any U.S. destination of your choice.

Garden Club Meeting

The Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club will hold its final general meeting of the year on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Wakeman Center. The program scheduled is titled Holiday Creations. Wiet Bacheller, Mary Lou Perry and Kristin Henriksen, all members of the garden club, will present a brief workshop focusing on techniques, materials and tips for making holiday decorations. Following the program, the members from West Tisbury will host a hospitality hour with refreshments.

Senior Discount

Thursdays will be senior discount day at the Thrift Shop at Chicken Alley in Vineyard Haven. Everything in the Store will be 20 per cent off for seniors, age 55 and over. This discount will apply to all items in the store including those marked “not half.” The new senior discount day will replace mystery day begins Thursday, Nov. 19.
