Meadow Arrives

Madison Ibsen and Thomas Christopher, of Oak Bluffs, announce the birth of a daughter, Meadow Kay Christopher, born on July 27.

 

 

 

Emily MacRae and Michael Dwyer were married on the evening of July 18 at the Chappaquiddick Beach Club with family and friends gathered around them.

The bride is the daughter of Peter MacRae of Chappaquiddick and Julia Wells of West Tisbury. Her father is the manager of the Chappaquiddick Beach Club; her mother is the editor of the Vineyard Gazette. The bridegroom is the son of Jim and Rita Dwyer of West Newbury. His father is self-employed and his mother is retired.

Great Job, Janaye

Janaye Rooney of Vineyard Haven was one of four students from the Cape and Islands accepted for Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra’s master class with violinist Lindsay Deutsch. The class, held in late September at the Cape Cod Conservatory, was the first of two orchestra master classes in the 2009-2010 season. Janaye played the first movement of Mozart’s G major violin concerto.

Scholarship

Mariah HallBilsback of West Tisbury, a first-year student at Gettysburg College, was awarded a presidential scholarship by the college, recognizing her academic achievement in high school.

The following Vineyarders received their bachelor’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts Amherst: Elizabeth S. Elwell of Edgartown; Benjamin A. Madeiras of Oak Bluffs; Jesse H. Nicholson of Oak Bluffs; Todd J. Hitchings of Vineyard Haven; Rachel M. Lister of Vineyard Haven; and Rex Burney Jarrell 3rd of West Tisbury.

Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard, sponsor of the Spirit of the Vineyard Award, is asking for nominations for the 2009 award.

The award, given annually, honors those who have served for one or more nonprofit organizations on the Island, and whose work has made a difference to individuals and to the community as a whole. The criteria for selection include selflessness, range and depth of service performed, the length of volunteer service and the effect on the quality of life of the individuals who received help and for the Island community as a whole.

Groundbreaking

The Island Housing Trust, the Tisbury affordable housing committee and the Island Affordable Housing Fund will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Lambert’s Cove Road property where an affordable housing project is planned. Parking is along John Hoft Road. Look for green balloons. Rain date is Thursday, Oct. 15, at the same time.
