Hoo-Rah for Kelsey

The Tisbury Business Association is pleased to announce that Kelsey Ivory is the winner of its Dec. 3 Holiday Raffle. Mr. Ivory won a gift basket filled with goodies from Vineyard Grocer, Bunch of Grapes, Children in the Arts of Martha’s Vineyard and Tyler and Tallulah. In celebration of shopping locally, the association is holding Holiday Raffles every Thursday through Dec. 17, filled with goodies from participating businesses.

Morning Glory Farm and the Family that Feeds an Island, the story of the largest farm on Martha’s Vineyard, has been named the best local cuisine cookbook in the United States by the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. The award has placed it into the running for the best in the world award in this category, to be announced in February in Paris.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards is an internationally recognized organization that holds the world’s largest cookbook and drinks book trade fair every year. This year, 6,000 books were submitted.

Well Done, Mrs. LaPiana

Bishop George Coleman awarded a Marian Medal to Vineyarder Jill LaPiana, on Sunday, Nov. 22 in Fall River.

Mrs. LaPiana was one of 87 laypersons from throughout the diocese to receive the annual award, in recognition of services to the church. She was nominated by Fr. Michael Nagle, of Good Shepherd parish.

Red Stocking Fund

Applications to receive assistance from the Red Stocking Fund, the annual holiday clothing, food and gift drive for Island children from birth through eighth grade, are due by Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Applications can be picked up at any of the Island elementary schools, at most of the local banks, the tribal headquarters, the Boys’ and Girls’ Club, the Health Access Program, the Vineyard Food Pantry, and at the Department of Family and Children.

Emily Arrives

Suzanne Graham and Chris Graham of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a daughter, Emily Hope Graham, born on Nov. 23, 2009, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Emily weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces at birth. Emily is welcomed by her sister Anna and her brothers, Matthew and Johnathan.
