As a familiar stretch of Oak Bluffs waterfront continues its winter hibernation, the sand unblemished by human footprints or children's sand castles, plans are underway to breathe new life into what was once one of the busiest beaches on the Island.

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission agreed last week that a full review of the revised plan for Bradley Square is in order and set a public hearing for early next month.

At its regular meeting Thursday night the full commission disagreed with the recommendation of its land use planning committee, which on Monday voted to recommend that a new public hearing is not warranted for the revised Bradley Square plan.

In the start of what is expected to be another strong season, the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School hockey team rolled over Mansfield at home Saturday 7-1 before taking down perennial power Whitman Hanson two days later 4-2.

Nick Billingham gave the home team a fourth goal in the second period, and the Vineyarders added three more in the final frame.

Mr. Smith was hired in April to fill the vacant county manager position as a subcontractor on a part-time basis. With the unanimous vote this week, the county has its first full-time manager since E. Winn Davis left the post in August of 2007.
