Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Snider of Manchester by-the-Sea are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Heather Lynn Snider to Shaun Joe DePreist. Shaun is the son of Bernadette Crossland and Ashley DePriest, of Oak Bluffs.

Ms. Snider is a graduate of Manchester High School and Endicott College, with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. She is the director of the Manchester Playground and the director of the Hornets After School Program, in the town of Manchester-by-the-Sea. She is the granddaughter of Ruth Snider of Vineyard Haven.

Sandpiper Realty Inc. was just named a winner in the 2008 Massachusetts Association of Realtors Web site Design Contest.

The judges selected three sites from a total of 75 entries from across the state. The winners were chosen based on criteria ranging from the quality and originality of content to the visual design, interactivity and use of multimedia in the Web site.

Crop Walk Meeting

On Sunday, Sept. 7 at Grace Church at 5 p.m. there will be an organizational meeting for anyone interested in participating in or contributing to the annual Crop Walk of Martha’s Vineyard. Guest speaker will be Bert Marshall, executive director of the Northern New England Church World Service. Details of the walk, planned for Oct. 19, will be discussed. Information, posters, and other literature will be available.

Land Bank Input

The Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank will conduct a public input session at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, in the meeting room of the Vineyard Transit Authority office, located in the airport business park. The purpose of the session is to solicit public comment on future land acquisition priorities and any other matters which the public may wish to discuss.

Carolyn Dowd Engaged

Gerard Dowd and the late Cheryl Dowd of Oak Bluffs are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Carolyn (Chick) Dowd to Tyler Stapleton, son of Margo Stapleton and the late David Stapleton of Middletown, R.I.

A September 2008 wedding is planned at the Inn at Blueberry Hill in Chilmark.

Welcome, Penelope

Greer Thornton and Christian Thornton of Edgartown announce the birth of a daughter, Penelope Grace Thornton, born on August 25 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Penelope weighed 7.5 pounds at birth.
