Ellen McMahon and Arik Goff of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of a daughter, Grace Kyra Goff, born on July 7, 2009, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Grace weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces at birth.
Announcing Claire
Claire Angell Deren was born at Cambridge Hospital on June 26, 2009. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Wilson Deren and Kevin Deren of North Quincy. Her maternal grandparents are Susan and David Wilson of Oak Bluffs, and one of her great-grandmothers is Claire Gibson, also of Oak Bluffs.

Rosiane De Freitas and Marcos DeFreitas of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a daughter, Maria Rita DeFreitas Pinto, born on July 2, 2009, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Maria weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces at birth.
Welcome Kayra
Cristina and Juner Carlos of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of a daughter, Kayra Gonsalves Carlos, born on June 17 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Kayla weighed 6 pounds 13.8 ounces at birth.
Welcome, Colby
Alyssa and Nicholas Meegan of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of a son, Colby Maxwell Meegan, born on June 18 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Colby weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces at birth.
Harvey Burrell of Vineyard Haven and East Boston was selected by the WGBH-Lab as part of a team of six other young filmmakers to write, film and produce a short documentary about global warming.
With the help of a $2,000 grant from WGBH, their documentary — titled Cold Water — will examine the effects of greenhouse gases and rising water temperatures on the fish populations and fishing industry in the Atlantic Ocean, specifically along the New England coastline.
