No June Kids Programs

The youth programs at the Vineyard Haven Public Library will be on hiatus for the month of June. They resume July 2 and continue throughout the summer. The hiatus will allow librarians to plan and organize a full Summer Reading Program, with many exciting events including a visit by Curious George, authentic moon rock specimens from NASA, music, authors, illustrators, a film festival, crafts, songs, rhymes and more. The library thanks its young patrons for their patience.

New Island Lifeguards

After successfully completing a rigorous Red Cross program, 16 Mansion House swimmers were certified as lifeguards. The Mansion House was pleased to donate pool time and classroom space, as it continues to support lifeguard training as certified by the Red Cross and taught by Jennifer Fragosa.

Life guarding offers lucrative employment opportunities to the Island’s young adults and many of the town’s lifeguard employees were trained in the Mansion House pool.

Built on Stilts

Built on Stilts, the Island’s community dance and performance festival, is accepting registrations for participating artists now through July 1. The festival will run from August 12 to 17. The Built on Stilts children’s programs, Stiltshop and Advancedshop, are also now enrolling on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit builtonstilts.org for details and application forms.

The COMSOG greenhouse lets all of us know that spring is finally here on the Vineyard! The Mother’s Day sale will continue for the whole month of May during the mornings. Russell Arrives

Kristen and Will Coogan of Edgartown announce the birth of a son, Russell William Coogan, on May 14 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Russell weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and is welcomed by big sister Aedan.

Hello, Christopher

Geismar Furtado and Gilson da Silva of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a son, Christopher Furtado da Silva, on May 18 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Christopher weighed 5 pounds, 5.6 ounces at birth.
