Six of seven schools on the Vineyard were given top rankings based on results from annual statewide standardized tests, which were released this week. The West Tisbury School received a commendation for high achievement on performance, while Tisbury School second-graders were the second highest performers in the state on the English portion of the test.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School has received approval from the state to officially close the early childhood education vocational program at the end of the next school year.

At the district school committee meeting Monday evening, Vineyard schools superintendent Dr. James H. Weiss presented a letter from the state approving the school’s plan to close the program. In order to close the program, the school had to ensure that any student already enrolled would be able to finish the program. There are currently six students enrolled.

The varsity boys’ soccer team plays its first home game of the season tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. against Nauset.

Girls’ soccer also plays at home tomorrow, taking on Whitinsville Christian at 1:30 p.m.

Golf has two home matches this week, and will play Eastern Athletic Conference opponents Bishop Feehan on Tuesday and Coyle-Cassidy on Thursday at Farm Neck.

The football team plays its first home game of the season tonight at 6:30 p.m. against Old Rochester. Their next home game will not be until the end of the month.

On Saturday, the cross country teams host the sixth annual Vineyard Invitational meet, featuring 13 teams and over 420 athletes. The first races will be at 11 a.m.

Also on Saturday, boys’ soccer plays visiting Dennis-Yarmouth at 12:30 p.m.
