A Pennsylvania man charged with stealing more than $85,000 worth of jewelry and other items during a series of August home break-ins was sentenced last week to serve 18 months in a house of correction.

Damien N. Derose, 28, of Doylestown, Pa., pleaded guilty Sept. 27 in Edgartown district court to eight counts of breaking and entering a building in the daytime for a felony, six counts of larceny from a building, one count of attempt to commit a crime, one count of larceny more than $250 and one count of malicious destruction of property more than $250.

The Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank, local police and the FBI are continuing to investigate automatic teller machine skimming devices that led to the theft of about $180,000 from various bank customers early this month.

This week, more information has emerged about fraudulent withdrawals made on customer accounts over Labor Day weekend. The scam took place at a Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank ATM in Oak Bluffs, but police said members of other banks were also impacted.

An Island man was arraigned Sept. 6 in Edgartown District Court on several charges, including rape of a child.

Andrew R. Bradshaw, 49, was arrested Sept. 5 and charged with rape of a child with force, open and gross lewdness and two counts of enticing a child under 16 in two separate cases dating to June and September 2012. The incidents allegedly happened in Tisbury, where Mr. Bradshaw has a home. His current listed address is in Edgartown.

Island police ended the summer with several drug arrests and investigations, including three men charged with drug trafficking and the discovery of 20 marijuana plants in Aquinnah.

As part of an ongoing prescription drugs investigation, members of the Martha’s Vineyard Task Force Tuesday arrested three men who allegedly came to the Island to sell prescription drugs.

A retired Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School teacher was arraigned Friday on charges that he allegedly sexually assaulted a former student.

Wendell Leo Frame Jr., 65, was arraigned on two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older. Bail was set at $500, and Mr. Frame was ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victim or any female younger than 18 and to stay away from all Island schools.
