Just as high school athletics season kicks off comes the potentially good news that the Eastern Athletic Conference — a sports league made up of predominantly parochial schools from the south shore — has invited the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School to join its ranks.
Several Vineyard sports teams have been without a conference since the principals of the South Coast Conference unexpectedly voted in December of 2006 not to allow the regional high school to remain in the league.
Dance Away
Two benefit New England Contra Dances for Island resident and musician Kerry Elkin are coming up off-Island: one is on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m. at the Greenfield Grange in Greenfield. Mass.; the other is Friday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Scout House in Concord. All proceeds will go to Kerry for his medical needs and to MS research. It was the day tropical storm Hanna was supposed to hit and, as luck would have it, Michael Domitrovich was stuck inside with a chest cold. Despite the weather and the nagging cough, Mr. Domitrovich declared himself a lucky man.
Remembering 9/11
A Time and Space To Be Together and Reflect on 9/11 with Silence, Words and Music will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Martha’s Vineyard.
This will be a time of reflection and of sharing of our remembrances, concerns and sorrows with Rev. Polly Leland-Mayer and with each other. Readings to share will be welcomed.
The Unitarian Universalist chapel is located at 238 Main street in Vineyard Haven. It is a welcoming congregation and is universally accessible.
