Hartwick College Graduate

Emily Franklin of Vineyard Haven, daughter of Penny and Gavin Franklin, has graduated from Hartwick College with a bachelor of arts degree in management.

At Hartwick, she participated in Phi Sigma Phi and women’s varsity field hockey.

While the Bradley Square renovation project in Oak Bluffs continues to generate controversy before the town zoning board of appeals, another project just down the road that is similar in some ways is starting to generate some heat before the Martha’s Vineyard Commission.

Vineyard Haven resident Donald Muckerheide, a vocal opponent of the Bradley Square project over the past nine months, initially proposed a nine-unit, three-story housing project in a business-zoned district on Dukes County avenue, a few blocks away from the Bradley Square site.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Snider of Manchester by-the-Sea are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Heather Lynn Snider to Shaun Joe DePreist. Shaun is the son of Bernadette Crossland and Ashley DePriest, of Oak Bluffs.

Ms. Snider is a graduate of Manchester High School and Endicott College, with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. She is the director of the Manchester Playground and the director of the Hornets After School Program, in the town of Manchester-by-the-Sea. She is the granddaughter of Ruth Snider of Vineyard Haven.

Sandpiper Realty Inc. was just named a winner in the 2008 Massachusetts Association of Realtors Web site Design Contest.

The judges selected three sites from a total of 75 entries from across the state. The winners were chosen based on criteria ranging from the quality and originality of content to the visual design, interactivity and use of multimedia in the Web site.

Friday Conversation

Friday Conversations at the Oak Bluffs Senior Center continue from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

On Friday Sept. 12, the speaker will be Nancy Francis of Life-Line Screening. She will talk about stroke prevention. She will be accompanied by Nicole Barlett, Vineyard Nursing Association public health nurse for five Island towns.

Rotary Club Winners

The Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard announced the winners of the recent Great Lobster Raffle fund-raiser which the club holds each year. Winners were selected at the club luncheon meeting on August 27 at the Ocean View Restaurant in Oak Bluffs.

• First prize: 50 pounds of lobsters went to April Anastacio of Edgartown.

• Second prize: 25 pounds of lobsters went to Ray LaPorte of Vineyard Haven.

• Third prize: 15 pounds of lobsters went to Walter Morrison of Edgartown.
