Celebrations
Marcela Roa Wandurraga and Christopher P. Habekost were married at their home in Edgartown on Feb. 7, 2009, by justice of the peace John Alley.
In attendance were Marcela’s parents Jose and Alicia Roa of Bogota, Columbia, Christopher’s parents, Frederick and Priscilla Thifault of Tisbury, and numerous members of their families.
Marcela and Christopher will continue to make their home in Edgartown with Marcela’s three children.
Rebecca Y. Palmer and Erik P. Claussen of Martha's Vineyard were married in Edgartown at the Wharf Restaurant on Feb. 15, 2009, joined by family and friends.
Rebecca is the daughter of George and Cheryl Palmer of Falmouth.
Erik is the son of Paul and Diane Claussen of Oak Bluffs.
The ceremony was officiated by Michael Vaughan of Worcester, Mass. Standing up for the bride was her brother, Jonathan Palmer of San Antonio, Tex., and for the bridegroom was his sister, Kirsten Hodges of Milford, Mass.
Jim and Ann Litwinowich of Holden announce the marriage of their daughter, Katie Litwinowich, to Stephen Meinelt, son of Terry and Kathy Meinelt of Topsfield.
Katie and Stephen were married on Sept. 26, 2008, at Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham, with a reception at the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod.
Kathleen Baldwin and Scott Giles were married Jan. 17 at All Saints Chapel, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fla.
The bride is the daughter of Susan and Kevin Baldwin of Williamsburg, Va., formerly of McLean, Va.
The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Brian Giles of Lee, N.H., and Chilmark.
Meghan Baldwin, of Williamsburg, was maid of honor. Christine Lynders was best woman, and Maj. Thomas Cleaver, U.S. Marine Corps was best man. Ushers were Andrew Heling and Matt Heling, cousins of the groom.
Savers Rewarded
Two Island students won prizes in the annual Save for America drawing. Benjamin Davey of the Tisbury School won the grand prize, a $250 gift certificate redeemable at amazon.com, and Jack Sayre of the Oak Bluffs School won a $25 voucher.
The contest selects 10 students from some 3,500 elementary students in 28 states. These students made regular deposits through school banking.
The Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank coordinates the student savings programs in Island schools.
Oliver Joins the Crowd
Brett and Sarah Hopp Marcotte of Seekonk proudly announce the birth of their first child, Oliver Edward Marcotte, on April 9 at the Women’s and Infant’s Hospital in Providence, R.I.
Oliver weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces and was 21 inches long at birth. His grandparents are Mary Follas of Edgartown, Alfred Hopp of Vineyard Haven, and Sandra and Edward Marcotte of Seekonk.
