Dean’s List
Jaime L. Billings, of Oak Bluffs, has been named to the spring 2011 dean’s list at Roger Williams University.
Bison, Bison Baby
The bison are back! Howard University Alumni Association (HUAA) in conjunction with the Howard University Law Alumni Association (HULAA) will be hosting a networking and professional development group of events beginning on Wednesday, August 24 and running through Sunday, August 28. Activities will include numerous meets and swims with the polar bears, a wine and cheese art show, a golf and tennis tournament, a chicken and waffle party and, of course, bison beach ball and the summer white party.
Grandparents Day
Friday, August 26 from 9 a.m. to noon it’s grandparents day at the Native Earth Teaching Farm off North Road in Chilmark.
Grandparents and their little ones are invited to tour the farm, check out the baby animals and learn about farming and conservation. Don’t forget to check out the prize-wining humongous pig too.
And because the farm is all-inclusive, well-behaved parents can join in the fun too.
Enter the Solarbeam
Southern New England Solar has installed the first solar parabolic concentrator on a residence in the United States, here on Martha’s Vineyard. The system is currently providing all domestic hot water, space heating and pool heating for a large residence on the Island.
The company, recently formed by West Tisbury resident Paul D. Adler, with sales executive Gary Stuber of Chilmark, has an exclusive distributorship for Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, for a new solar product called the Solarbeam.
Higher Role at Hy-Line
Ellen Lonergan has been promoted to the position of treasurer/controller for Hy-Line Cruises, following the retirement of Mark Joseph, who had held the job since 1972. Ms. Lonergan, with the company since 1978,has been working as the assistant treasurer and supervising the ticketing and reservation department. Hy-Line Cruises is a family-owned company and operates harbor cruises, fishing trips, and Island ferries. Hy-Line celebrates their 50th anniversary in business next year.
No ATVs Please
The West Tisbury conservation commission reminds the public that riding dirt bikes or ATVs in the Margaret K. Littlefield Greenlands property and along Checama Path is prohibited by both local and state law.
