The fate of the Martha’s Vineyard Family Center surfaced again this week, with the center’s supporters urging the high school committee to consider ways to keep the center at the high school.

The high school, citing low enrollment numbers, has decided to phase out its early childhood vocational program. As a result, the family center will need to relocate by 2014.

A West Tisbury woman last week killed her husband in what law enforcement officials have determined was an act of self-defense, with the incident shaking the Island community and calling into focus domestic abuse issues and resources on-Island.

The morning of March 23 Cynthia C. Bloomquist, 63, allegedly shot and killed her estranged husband, Kenneth R. Bloomquist, 64, after he broke into her home and shot her. The district attorney ruled the incident a homicide during an act of self-defense.

Edgartown restaurant Il Tesoro at the Terrace is in danger of having its liquor license suspended.

The South Summer street restaurant, located inside the Charlotte Inn, was supposed to reopen by Feb. 5 following a short closure. As of now, it remains shuttered. Selectman Margaret Serpa said at an alcohol hearing Monday that if the restaurant was not reopened by Saturday, March 30, the selectmen would suspend the year-round alcohol license.

The annual Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament was back on the hot seat Tuesday, with a state shark biologist giving selectmen a scientific point of view of the tournament, which he said data now shows is largely catch-and-release. Though a local group has petitioned for changes to tournament regulations, the board declined to take any action.
