At Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Wednesday, chocolate, yoga, and Tae Kwon Do were on the syllabus.

It was the school’s annual Wellness Day, where students had the chance to choose from nearly 40 different workshops dealing with health and well-being, food, exercise, emotional health and career guidance. Around the school, teachers and volunteers from the community led classes in specialized fields.

When it comes to drug and alcohol abuse among teenagers, peer pressure and experimentation frequently are cited as contributors. But according to one expert, a look at adolescent brains shows why teens are particularly affected by drug and alcohol use.

To speak more about what’s going on in teenagers’ heads — and how it affects things like substance addiction — Dr. Traci L. Brooks is coming to the Vineyard next week for three presentations about “The Adolescent Brain” and changes that occur as the brain matures.

Edgartown voters easily approved $4.9 million in funding for a new town library, along with dozens of other spending requests during a lengthy annual town meeting Tuesday night.

With a gathering of 305 voters at the Old Whaling Church, town meeting members approved most of the items on the 63-article annual town meeting warrant and a 12-article special town meeting warrant.
