Dr. James Weiss died on August 10 at the age of 78. He spent 10 of his 46 years in education serving the Island.

The Aquinnah select board is hoping to learn if the town is responsible for paying the entire education costs for students who live on sovereign land owned by the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). 

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School committee voted unanimously Thursday to pay Sean Mulvey $185,000 to serve as principal for the next year, giving the district more time to search for a long-term successor to departing principal Sara Dingledy.

Sean Mulvey, a guidance counselor at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, will be the school’s next principal on an interim basis, Island schools superintendent Richard Smith told the high school committee Monday night.

Hugs and smiles were shared at the Chilmark Preschool groundbreaking ceremony Friday morning as parents, educators and town residents gathered to celebrate the milestone.
