The sign outside State Road Restaurant last Wednesday night said Go Bruins. The parking lot was overflowing and yet upon entering there was no hockey to be found. Instead, there was a crowd of people talking about writing and literature.

The orange kittens are entertaining the staff and those who come to visit them. Foxy, a 2-year-old female Maine coon, is becoming a little more sociable. Ten-year-old Cody, also a shy girl, is also waiting for adoption.

It was another busy year at the Island Food Pantry, a community-wide organization that feeds those in need.

The year proved similar to last year; there were 2,405 visits, which fed 505 family units, including at least 250 children.

Folks over age 55 can try out water aerobics, pilates, chair yoga and more for free at the YMCA’s Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to noon.
