Morning Glory Farm is bringing a bit of friendly competition to the growing fields. Sure they have farming down, but what about all those homegrowers out there? To inspire more green thumbs, the farm is sponsoring a pea competition. First peas to be brought into the farm from a backyard grower wins a $50 gift certificate and, more important, an honorary sash and crown to wear all summer long. Queen Pea or King Pod, who knows who will emerge victorious.

Two of the cages in the lobby of the Animal Shelter are adorned with blue ribbons. Ruby, the white rabbit with artfully-placed black spots and Twinkie, a large black male guinea pig, won honors at the Celebration of Pets last weekend. Both animals have been hand raised and are gentle and cuddly. So are our other less distinguished guinea pigs, Lucy, Ethel, and Robert. Those guys have red eyes like pets from outer space.
