Stream Talk

Greg Whitmore, ecologist for The Trustees of Reservations, will give a talk titled In a Vineyard Stream May

18 at the Mary P. Wakeman Center on Shirley avenue off Lambert’s Cove Road in Vineyard Haven.

Mr. Whitmore will discuss aquatic biomonitoring and the stream insects of the Vineyard. Admission is free. Pre-register by calling 508-693-7662, extension 11.

Get all wrapped up in a free cooking demonstration by Dee Geiger of Tea Lane Caterers as she presents Oh, the Things You Can Do With Wonton Wrappers! on Wednesday, May 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Chilmark Public Library. Samples and recipes will be provided.

Ms. Geiger will share her ideas for innovative ways to fill wontons, beyond the traditional pork and shrimp. She likes to be creative in her catering and enjoys developing specialty foods around themes like Old Fashioned Southern Barbecue and Mexican Fajita parties.

The Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary is seeking birders and sponsors to participate in Massachusetts Audubon’s 25th year of birding competition.

Birders and donors raise money for Felix Neck Wildlife sanctuary and our programs by getting pledges per number of bird species seen or making a donation to the Felix Neck team.

The Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group has scheduled its fourth annual spring benefit event, An Evening Under the Stars, for Thursday, May 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Mediterranean, 52 Beach Road, Vineyard Haven.

This gala celebration for the support group is hosted by Mediterranean restaurant owners Doug and Leslie Hewsen. The event is sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank and also supported by donations from Island businesses and individuals.

After two successful benefit wine dinners for The Yard artists-in-the-schools program at The Sweet Life Café Oak Bluffs, owners Susan and Pierre Guerin are going bubbly, announcing an evening featuring Champagne from the world-renowned house of Veuve Clicquot, on Wednesday, May 14, at 6 p.m.

An aperitif and hors d’oeuvres will be followed by a four-course menu specially prepared to showcase the Champagnes. Winemaker Cyril Brun will be on hand to guide guests through a tasting of five different champagnes.
