Charter Membership Rate

Vineyard Village At Home, a nonprofit business that offers assistance to Island residents 55 years of age and older, is offering a charter membership rate to give access to its services.

For a limited time, the charter membership rate for a one-year membership is $450 for an individual and $600 for a household. The membership dues will increase after Sept. 30.

King Corn is a feature documentary about two friends, one acre of corn, and the subsidized crop that drives our fast-food nation, and it screens on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Katharine Cornell Theatre on Spring street in Vineyard Haven.

Fly-Fishing Class

A fly-fishing class is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 17 at the Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club off Third street North in Edgartown.

The class will include instruction about casting, equipment and techniques, knots, flies, building a leader, putting your gear together, reading the water and handling fish. Equipment will be provided.

The fee is $85 for club members and $100 for non-members. Call 508-693-6338 to preregister.

Let’s Talk About Race

Moving Beyond Race: The Dialogue Continues is the program on Wednesday, May 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center on Centre street in Vineyard Haven.

The Island Diversity Council, Martha’s Vineyard NAACP, and the Social Action Committee of the Hebrew Center will show the video Eye of the Storm: Sharing Powerful Lessons About Racism, followed by a community discussion. All are welcome.

Habitat Open House

On Saturday, May 24 at 9 a.m., an open house and dedication is scheduled for Andrews Road in Vineyard Haven to celebrate Habitat for Humanity’s fifth house on the Island. The house is now nearing completion.

Habitat homes are affordable because of labor and material donations, the sweat equity of the new family and financial help from the community. More information about Habitat is available by calling 508-696-4646.

Wilkommen, bienvenu, welcome: The world language department of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School invites all to an international celebration on Wednesday, May 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Highlights of the World Language Night evening will include student drama, musical and dance performances in the Performing Arts Center, student-made videos and authentic ethnic food prepared by culinary and language students available at the school.
