West Tisbury volunteer firefighters spent several hours on election night dousing a brush fire in a stump pit at John Keene Excavation off Old Stage Road. About 30 firefighters responded to the scene, which was cleared just after 1 a.m.

Chris Baer, who has taught photography and technology at the regional high school for nearly two decades, was singled out for his work in documentary photography exchange projects that connect students to their peers from all over the world.

West Tisbury police are investigating a break-in and theft that took place at Alley’s General Store sometime Monday evening or Tuesday morning. Police chief Dan Rossi said a little more than $800 in cash was stolen.

The West Tisbury selectmen on Wednesday agreed to review zoning rules for the Agricultural Hall after concern that the number of events held each year on the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society grounds off Panhandle Road may be over the limit.

Rosalie Powell is devoted to the 19th century of art hooking, teaching and practicing the skill at her West Tisbury studio. This year, she won a major award at a hand-hooked rug competition. "To rug hookers it's a huge prize, like a Pulitzer," Ms. Powell said.
