The town of Oak Bluffs has ordered an East Chop summer resident to remove a series of illegal additions from a large home building project on Dempster Park that has angered neighbors and sparked a protracted legal process. At a meeting last week the Oak Bluffs zoning board of appeals voted to uphold building inspector James Dunn's enforcement order to Dr. Leslie Hayling, a New Jersey dentist and longtime summer resident who has been rebuilding a home and garage apartment on Dempster Park for the past 10 years.

The committee negotiating cable television service for the six Island towns signed off Wednesday morning on a draft contract for the next 10 years.

The contract, which now must be ratified by individual towns, includes expanded service to underserved areas, a senior discount and $620,000 in capital funding for the Island public television station MVTV.

West Tisbury selectmen reviewed a plan this week to improve traffic safety at the intersection of Old County and State Roads.

The plan calls for replacing delineators intended to slow down traffic with a T-shaped intersection and stop sign on Old County Road. The design was created by the state Department of Transportation with help from the Martha’s Vineyard Commission. The project is estimated to cost $350,000 and will be funded by the state.

Twenty-four thousand pounds of concrete hovered over the Dutcher Dock in Menemsha harbor on Wednesday morning, a bright January sun shining through the crane’s sling.

A small group of onlookers, town officials and contractors watched as the floating dock was expertly guided into place by the crane operator.

Shared use of a fingerprinting machine sparked discussion among the Aquinnah selectmen this week about the terms of a contract between the town and Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) for emergency services.

Aquinnah police chief Randhi Belain told the selectmen Tuesday that he had questions about the use of a new fingerprinting machine, soon to be obtained by the tribe through a federal grant.
