STAY DRY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

We are writing to express our strong conviction regarding the so-called beer and wine issue in Vineyard Haven. Our conviction grows out of a good many years of experience and observation in a considerable number of communities where we have been associated.

SUPPORTING DIVERSITY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

The Island community recently suffered a tragic loss with the death of a young woman. No one denies this. But in the aftermath of the accident, some members of our community began to talk in disparaging and mean-spirited terms about other members of our community.

Unfortunate Move

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

The terrible news that the Visiting Nurse Service is closing is causing distress in the minds and hearts of many Vineyard residents who have come to rely on the services provided by this agency.

Particularly troubling is the loss of a uniquely dedicated team of nurses who have demonstrated a willingness time and time again to go above and beyond the call of duty in serving and advocating for their patients and the families of their patients.

A LESSER EVIL

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

FLOURISHING LIBRARY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

It has been reported in your paper that the Aquinnah Public Library has cut hours.

This has not happened, nor has this been planned for the future. Our library hours continue to be Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ISLAND HOME FLAWS

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

This letter has been sent to Wayne Lamson, general manager at the Steamship Authority:

My family and I have had occasion to travel on the new Island Home several times since she was introduced to the run between the Vineyard and Woods Hole. Although she does emulate — in some ways — our much-loved and missed Islander (the double-ended configuration and drive-through, etc.), she has some very curious design and construction features. Here are a few things that I noticed.
