Although the March wind still blows cold, spring is beginning to make itself known on the Island. And for those who want to truly embrace spring, on April 29 the Tisbury Travel Club is heading to the Museum of Fine Art in Boston for their salute to spring, also known as the Art in Bloom show.

When artist Margot Datz begins a new project she finds it hard to stop. “Until someone rips me off the wall I’m there,” she said on Wednesday morning at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. Although no one is coming to rip Ms. Datz off the wall, her brother Stephen Datz is on hand to “help her out the door,” he said. Good thing, too, as this weekend there will be a wedding held at the church. Scaffolding and bridal gowns do not really mix. But magnificently-restored murals serving as a backdrop for wedded bliss definitely do.

During summer the Chilmark Tavern stays true to its name. It is a place to eat and imbibe — bring your own, of course. But for the past few years, each winter the tavern morphs into a completely different type of destination, one that defies a category or even a definition. Welcome to the Pathways Project.

The brainchild of Marianne Goldberg, Pathways is essentially a playground for artists of all genres. Ms. Goldberg holds a doctorate in performance studies from New York University and has traveled extensively, performing and studying visual art, choreography and other art forms.

Two artists, Ray Ellis, 91, from Edgartown and Joshua Chase, 10, from Hudson, will be featured this morning on the Today Show. The two are new best friends. Joshua earned the attention of talent scouts when pictures of his paintings were submitted by his mother, Chantel Chase, to the television program’s nationwide search. One of the signature paintings is an interpretative copy of Mr. Ellis’s painting Moonrise over Edgartown Harbor which includes a sloop and a ketch sailing towards the Edgartown Lighthouse.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum is hosting a reception tonight, March 15, for its latest spotlight gallery. These are short-term galleries devoted to rarely seen collections, new acquisitions and curators’ favorites. The latest spotlight was curated by the museum’s Facebook fans and Twitter followers. Over the past few weeks, these friends have voted on their favorite objects in the museum collection. The winners are now on exhibit.
