Contemplative Retreat
On Saturday, March 10, Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven is holding mini-retreat on contemplative living and meditative prayer led by Ethel Fraga.
Herbal Tea Talk
Some think green beer for St. Patrick’s day. Others go for a spot of tea.
If you’re in the latter camp, head to the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore on Main street in Vineyard Haven to sip tea with Island herbalist Holly Bellebuono, who will be discussing her new book The Essential Herbal for Natural Health: How to Transform Easy-To-Find Herbs Into Healing Remedies for the Whole Family.
Afterwards, perhaps you can use the herbs to help an ailing St. Patrick’s Day reveler.
The Vineyard girls’ basketball team’s season came to an end Monday night, with the team falling 55-41 to number-two Fairhaven.
This was the first season the team has been to the playoffs since 2003. The girls entered the tournament on a last-minute regular season win and were seeded eleventh. They won their first two games, defeating Ashland and East Bridgewater, to advance to the semifinal round.
Like so many Vineyarders do, the high school sailing team gathered Monday afternoon at the Steamship Authority docks to wait for a boat.
Or, more specifically, their six boats, which rolled off the Island Home on the back of a trailer to much applause and cheering.
Thanks to gifts from Sail MV benefactors — the program provides equipment and a home base for the team — the team was able to purchase brand new 420s for the fleet. This is the first new fleet in the program’s history; previous boats were always purchased used.
Mites Skate to Title
Winter sports success continued even for the youngest of Vineyard hockey teams, with the Martha’s Vineyard Mites winning the 2012 Needham B Tournament championship last weekend in Needham.
The team was undefeated in the tournament, winning all three of its qualifying games, against Needham, Milton and Winchester, despite the extra challenge of playing on an Olympic-sized sheet of ice.
