The Vineyard Nursing Association, Vineyard Health Care Access Program and Island Health are collaborating on a pilot program for people who are living with or are at risk for chronic diseases such as diabetes, congestive heart failure and COPD. Called The Martha’s Vineyard Partnership for Health, the free program aims to help people connect with resources, education and health care needed to improve their health.

They were seeking to reel in stripers and bluefish for the annual derby. Instead, Caleb Nicholson, Neal Farrell and John Thomas (JT) Maher reeled in three stranded fishermen whose boat sank miles off the coast of Aquinnah and were clinging to a cooler in the chilly, rough seas.

The back wall of the Martha’s Vineyard Arena received extra decoration on Friday.

First up were the seven posterboards, bedazzled with sprinklings of glitter and announcing the names of the senior girls on the junior varsity and varsity hockey teams. Next up came the 10 cardboard T-shirts, painted to look like the jerseys of the seniors on the boys’ teams.

The girls’ basketball team finished off their season with a tournament win, defeating host team Marblehead 49-25 on Wednesday in the annual Brad Sheridan Memorial Tournament. Senior Maggie Riseborough scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds against the Magicians, while senior captain Katie Stewart notched 10 points. Stewart also earned the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award. On Tuesday the team beat Newburyport 40-29 to advance to the final game.

The Vineyarders close out the regular season with a 16-4 record. Postseason tournament seedings will be announced today.
