It’s been a particularly successful year for bay scalloping in Chilmark, town shellfish constable Isaiah Scheffer confirmed this week, with landings way up for both commercial and recreational shellfishermen. In a voicemail left for the Gazette, Mr. Scheffer reported that to date commercial shellfishermen have landed over 2,000 bushels of scallops while recreational fishermen have landed 245 bushels.
The boys’ basketball team rebounded from a tough one-point loss on Friday in their second game of the weekend as they defeated visiting Lexington 53-46 on Sunday afternoon. Senior Liam Weston had a standout game for the Vineyarders, shooting 78 per cent from the field en route to 16 points.
The Vineyard girls’ hockey team continued a solid showing in league play this week, picking up two wins to move to a 5-3 record. They are 4-2 in the Southeastern Massachusetts Girls Hockey League after defeating opponents Scituate and Hanover.
