The Martha’s Vineyard youth football team will be hosting an obstacle course benefit for Relay for Life, the annual American Cancer Society walkathon, this Saturday, March 16. In addition to an adventurous obstacle course, there will be a bouncy house, face painting, food, raffles and a DJ.

Eating for the ice, that’s what’s happening on Wednesday, March 20 at Eleven North in Edgartown. As part of the kickoff “Raise the Roof” campaign for the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena, the restaurant is donating 20 per cent of the proceeds of a prix-fixe, three-course meal to the arena. The cost for the dinner is $35.

Oyster season in Chilmark is set to begin on Monday after the board of selectmen approved the opening of the short season.

At the selectmen’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, the board approved a recommendation from the shellfish committee that permits two heaping bushels a day, Monday through Wednesday. The season ends April 30. Shellfish constable Isaiah Scheffer said half a dozen oystermen had expressed interested in permits — “a controlled amount,” Mr. Scheffer added.

From charter members to recently diagnosed patients to caregivers, over 40 people attended the annual Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group celebration of survival on Sunday night. The potluck dinner was held at the Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs.
