The fall sitting of Dukes County superior court begins next week at the Edgartown courthouse, with several criminal and civil trials on the preliminary docket. Criminal cases currently scheduled for trial include that of a Vineyard Haven man charged with rape.

A Martha’s Vineyard cab driver found himself at the center of national attention this week after a confrontation Sunday with a Republican videographer, eventually holding a press conference Wednesday evening to address the incident, saying he meant to shield his young daughter from the camera.

A Chilmark summer employee was arraigned in Edgartown district court Thursday after allegedly having a package of marijuana mailed to the harbor master’s Menemsha office.

Emmett L. Ross, 19, was arraigned on August 21 charges in Chilmark of a drug violation near a school or park, possessing to distribute class D drug (marijuana) and larceny less than $250.

A 21-year-old Pennsylvania man has been charged with rape after an alleged incident in Oak Bluffs.

Joseph D. Williams, 21, of Verona, Pa., was arraigned August 16 in Edgartown district court on charges of rape and selling/delivering alcohol to a person under 21.

The work gloves were destined for Pimpneymouse Farm, the truffle butter for the home of a well-known cookbook author whose specialty is grilling. But those and a lot of other items delivered to Chappaquiddick in packages via UPS never made it to their final destinations because they were allegedly intercepted by a person who has since been arrested and charged with theft.

A New York woman is facing a cocaine trafficking charge in what Edgartown police are calling one of the biggest drug busts in recent memory late last week. Police said the arrest is connected to a larger operation bringing cocaine to the Vineyard.
