Two Island men were sentenced to state prison Friday for an October 2011 armed robbery in Edgartown. On Thursday, a jury found Brian D. Gromoshak, 32, of Oak Bluffs, and Demetrio Garcia 3rd, 19, of West Tisbury, guilty on several charges, including armed robbery and larceny more than $250. They were sentenced Friday at the Edgartown courthouse by the Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty 2nd, associate justice of the superior court.

An Edgartown man facing charges of illegally practicing law and taking money from clients was arraigned this month on charges of identity fraud.

An Oak Bluffs man was sentenced to four years of probation, and ordered along with his codefendant to pay full restitution, after pleading guilty Monday for his part in the 2011 theft of $85,000 from an elderly Oak Bluffs man.

Daniel Ben David, 49, pleaded guilty to charges of unarmed robbery and larceny over $250 Monday morning before the Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty 2nd, an associate justice of the Superior Court.

The firing of a longtime Tisbury police sergeant over his alleged mishandling of a 2011 domestic and sexual assault case was upheld last week by an arbitrator.

In a decision dated Oct. 12, arbitrator Richard G. Boulanger found that the selectmen’s November 2011 decision to dismiss Sgt. Robert Fiske was justified.

Sergeant Fiske, who had been with the department for 20 years, was fired for failing to comply with the Tisbury police department’s domestic violence and sexual assault policies.

An Oak Bluffs man was found guilty Tuesday in Dukes County superior court for the March 2011 theft of an elderly Oak Bluffs man’s life savings, and sentenced to five to seven years in state prison. A jury of 12 found Stanley Johnson, 52, guilty of unarmed burglary and larceny more than $250. The Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty 2nd, an associate justice of the superior court, sentenced Mr. Johnson to no less than five and no more than seven years at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction, a maximum security prison in Walpole. A New York woman was sentenced to 90 days in a house of correction after she pleaded guilty Friday to several charges in Edgartown, including prostitution.

Shannon M. Owens, 27, of New York, N.Y., pleaded guilty on Oct. 12 to sexual conduct for a fee, assault and battery, larceny less than $250 (amended from larceny more than $250) and malicious destruction of property more than $250 (amended from malicious destruction of property less than $250).
