For 34 years, Island Music on Main street in Vineyard Haven has helped anchor the local music scene. But with the store’s lease set to expire at the end of December, the future of the Island’s only music store is in jeopardy.

Esperanza Spalding headlined Ladyfest on Saturday, and following her set Carly Simon joined her children, Ben and Sally Taylor, onstage for a surprise performance.

Eight years ago, Kelly Feirtag and Rose Guerin brought a one-night-only women’s music festival called LadyFest to the Ritz on Circuit avenue. On Saturday, the festival is set to take over Alley Waban Park, complete with a Grammy Award-winning headliner.

The four-day festival runs from Thursday, Sept. 18 to Sunday, Sept. 21 at various venues around the Island.

The annual Martha’s Vineyard Sound Festival will take place Sunday, August 31 at Island Cove Mini Golf, with Jamaican reggae artist Barrington Levy as the headlining act.
