The annual Martha’s Vineyard Sound Festival will take place Sunday, August 31 at Island Cove Mini Golf, with Jamaican reggae artist Barrington Levy as the headlining act.

Local musicians performing include Willy Mason, DJ Dolce Vita, DJ Supa Ricky Prime, the Black Brook Singers and Dock Street Fight Club.

The event began in 2014 and is produced by Phil daRosa who said he enjoys bringing local artists together at the end of the summer.

“This basic format hasn’t changed over the years,” he said. “It’s local vendors, local foods, local artists and then an international headlining act.”

Co-producer Carter Hakala looks forward to the event as a seasonal shift.

“A lot of us don’t see each other during the summer, so we all get to have a nice day together with kids and family and enjoy a nice time,” he said.

The Black Brooke Singers, known as the community drum for the Wampanoag tribe, will kick things off for the afternoon and set the tone.

“I’ve had them come a number of times for a number of events and set the stage and they’re amazing,” Mr. daRosa said. “I’m super honored they’re... willing to come and kick things off.”

Mr. daRosa said the festival is a chance for everyone to enjoy the performances in a relaxed setting.

“It’s showcasing these local artists with this national headliner, which will bring the crowd in,” he said. “There’s a little bit of everything and I’m excited about it all.”

The festival begins at 2 p.m. on August 31. For tickets and more information, visit mvsoundfest.com.
