ATTEMPTED RESCUE
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
At 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, my wife, Lauren Crosbie, called me on my cell phone. She was upset and proceeded to describe to me the seal that she and her friend Diane Levin had come across on a beach up-Island. The seal was tangled in some sort of a mat or rug and was in dire straits. It was dying and the surf was pounding.

REASONS TO VOTE NO
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
Two of the qualities of life in our community in Vineyard Haven will be affirmed by voting no on Article I to permit the sale of alcohol in the town of Tisbury on April 27: our grandchildren and “getting away from it all.”
PAY RAISE QUESTIONS
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
During a time where everyone is being asked to tighten their budgets, I find it interesting that the Oak Bluffs fire chief is asking for a $30,000 raise. Remember, this is not a full-time position. The department is still a volunteer department, meaning that the members receive yearly stipends, including the chief.
Thank you, islanders
