Each week the folks at Cinema Circus show a series of short films on Wednesday evening at the Chilmark Community Center. The films begin at 6 p.m. but the circus — complete with jugglers, face painters, stilt walkers, food and music — gets underway at 5 p.m. The short films are programmed each week around a central theme, introduced in the first film by Professor Projector. This week’s theme is telling stories.

The historic Island, currently roofless, will most likely not be in commission before next summer. And despite efforts to reopen it, the Strand remains out of use.

When it comes to treating psychological disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), it is increasingly common for doctors to prescribe for their patients a variety of drugs. From Ritalin to Valium, these drugs can be highly addictive and can also have negative side effects that range from the relatively benign, such as a loss of appetite, to the extreme, such as severe atrial fibrillation.

An advanced screening of the films was arranged with a young cineaste. This week’s reviewer is Porter Moehnke

It was the summer of 1974 and John and Judy Belushi pulled up to the Woods Hole ferry terminal with a guidebook, a sense of adventure and no ferry reservation. The two were working for National Lampoon at the time and were enjoying a real vacation for once in New England.
