In a letter, selectmen urged directors for the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival to reconsider a plan to buy property off Old County Road.
Despite fierce opposition, Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival leaders said they intend to follow through with plans to buy a tract of residential farmland in West Tisbury.
A 12.5-acre residential property off Old County Road is slated to become a permanent home for the film festival, the organization said, although no plan has been presented yet.
Filmed in 1925, this may be the earliest motion picture footage ever shot in Edgartown. The filmmakers were Clara F. Dinsmore and her brother William, who were on a car ride through town.
The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center’s environmental film festival takes place throughout this weekend.
