Film footage of Vineyard Haven shot in 1933 is not only some of the earliest film shot in color on Martha’s Vineyard, but also some of the earliest color movies shot anywhere.

Newtown, a heart-wrenching documentary featuring three families who lost children in the mass shooting, their journey through grief, and the resilience of the community which gathered around them, will screen at the Chilmark Community Center on July 20 at 8 p.m.

Earlier this spring the Strand and Capawock theatres opened their doors for a second season as part of the Martha's Vineyard Theatre Foundation. The foundation hopes to build off last summer’s success which saw nearly 25,000 people attend screenings at both theatres.

One Big Home, Thomas Bena’s first feature-length film, had its Vineyard premier at the Chilmark Community Center on Wednesday evening as part of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival’s summer series.

Berklee College of Music students are once again a part of the Filmusic festival at the film center in Vineyard Haven.
