Halloween Costume Trade
Okay, so it was in the 80‘s this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that Halloween isn’t still around the corner. And for those with extra costumes lying around, or those with no ideas or materials to help the little ones scare the hair off Aunt Dot, the Oak Bluffs Library is setting up a costume swap.
Drop off your unwanted costume at the Oak Bluffs Public Library anytime before 6 p.m. on Oct. 21. And for every costume donated you get a ticket to the big swap on Oct. 22 from 10:30 to 3 p.m.
Kids Clothing Swap
This Saturday, Oct. 15, there is a free kids clothing and book swap at the West Tisbury School.
Stop by to browse the gently used clothing, shoes and books or if you have items to donate, drop them off. Most items are for kids from kindergarten to sixth grade.
The swap takes place at the school from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is free.
Left over items will be donated to charity.
On Saturday night, Oct. 15, The Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School is opening up the doors to everyone’s inner Fonzie, or if you swing to a more aggressive time channeler, how about Marlon Brando in The Wild One.
“What are rebelling against? What’ve you got?”
The 21st annual Vineyard CROP Walk takes place on Sunday, Oct. 16. The walk, as always, is sponsored by Church World Service, an international charity group, in response to worldwide hunger.
The walk begins at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church in Vineyard Haven at 2 p.m., and progresses to Trinity United Methodist Church in the campground in Oak Bluffs, and back again. Walkers may participate in all or some of the walk. Everyone is asked to report at 1:40 p.m. for registration.
Long Putt Nets $10,000
Stuart Minton’s deft skills on the putting green won him $10,000 after he sank a 40-foot putt in the 12th annual Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank Golf Classic on Monday, Sept. 26, hosted by the Vineyard Nursing Association.
Mr. Minton, part of the Donaroma’s Nursery foursome, became the first player in the history of the golf classic to win the putting contest. He was selected to make the prize-winning putt after his name was drawn from a pool of qualifiers.
Block Party Rhythms
This Saturday, Oct. 8, the Tisbury Business Association is hosting a sidewalk sale from noon to 4 p.m. There will be music by Rick Bausman, outdoor eating and big sales as businesses celebrate both the holiday and say thanks to their Island customers who support them all year long.
