Holiday Craft Sale
Thanksgiving is still weeks away so those who feel Christmas is a bit greedy when Santa and friends start appearing before the turkey and stuffing has been purchased, let alone eaten and digested, read no further.
But for those who like to get their holiday shopping out of the way now and avoid Black Friday, not to mention the frenetic pace of shopping throughout the month of December, welcome aboard.
Free Movie for Charity
The Capawock Theatre will present a free screening of The Lion King on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m. to benefit the Island Food Pantry. Attendees are asked to bring a canned food or cash donation. Checks should be made out to Island Food Pantry.
Head up to Aquinnah on any Saturday, rain or shine, warm or frigid. Turn left onto Church street and be on the lookout for a green field. Get out of the car and begin walking along a small path through the trees. At first the woods are still and silent. Then the sounds of children singing drift in from the distance. Keep walking. The voices grow louder, there is a guitar and the smell of smoke. A few more steps and the path opens up to reveal a teepee and a large campfire.
Holiday Drive for Needy
Island Alpaca Farm is collecting donations of food and gifts for the Red Stocking Fund. The farm will collect unwrapped presents and nonperishable foodstuffs valued at $10 or more through Dec. 24. Each person who donates an item will be entered to win one of two $50 gift certificates to the Island Alpaca Gift Shop. A drawing for the winners will be held on Dec. 24. Gifts for donation may also be purchased for the gift shop.
Beetlebung Festival
On Sunday, Nov 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. the Chilmark Community Center is hosting the Beetlebung Festival of the Arts and Edibles. What is that, you may ask. Well, it’s music set to a backbeat of local food made by Chris Fischer.
The music portion of the evening includes locally grown act Jason Nichols and Boston based indie-folk band, You Won’t.
Greenhouse Goes Up
The Community Solar Greenhouse (COMSOG) is raising the roof on their greenhouse. The new greenhouse roof is going up on Saturday, Nov. 5, (rain date 11/12) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is not a mere check-it-out announcement, either.
Workers are needed and that means you, couch potato. So much better for the tuber in you, to be warmed by the sun outdoors than the eerie glow of the television. As an incentive, COMSOG offers great food for all who help.
COMSOG is located at 114 New York avenue in Oak Bluffs.
