Comedy Night

It’s comedy night at the Harborview Hotel again.

On March 30, the hotel welcomes Joe Larson, Mike Whitman and Taylor Connelly to its stage. This is the third in an ongoing series of winter and spring comedy nights. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and available by calling 508-627-7000.

This is a 21 and older show.

Young Poets Award

On April 5 at 4 p.m. witness the future of poetry on the Vineyard. Featherstone Center for the Arts is hosting a reading of the winners of its annual Promising Young Poets award. This is the third year this contest has honored high school age poets whose work shows extraordinary promise.

The winners are Annabelle Hackney, Oscar Thompson, Claudia Taylor, Paige Taylor, Sarah Gruner, and Lizzie Kelleher, with runners-up Maddie Scott and Samantha Valley

The public is invited to attend the reading.

For regulars at the Dock Street Coffee Shop, it’s a sight they will have some trouble adjusting to. On a recent Thursday morning Don Patrick sat on the other side of the counter. After almost 30 years manning the griddle, the long time cook and fixture at the Edgartown diner has hung up his apron.

“I’m done. I’m all done. He’s the man now,” Mr. Patrick said, gesturing to his son, Darren, who scraped a heaping mound of eggs, bacon, ham, linguica, toast and homefries off the griddle and handed it to his father.

Occupy on Full Stomach

On Saturday, March 24 the empowerment and education working group of Occupy MV is hosting a free community dinner and screening of Eyes Wide Open. The documentary movie focuses on the Federal Reserve and the IRS. The screening begins at 7 p.m. at the Chilmark Community Center and will be followed by a question and answer session.

Garden Gate Benefit

The Garden Gate Child Development Center is throwing its annual Night of Adventure benefit party and auction on March 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Wharf in Edgartown.

One of the auction items is a chance to sing with Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish at the Ritz in Oak Bluffs.

Other more sedentary items, include a trip to Florida with Red Sox spring training tickets, breakfast at Linda Jean’s, a Mohegan Sun overnight trip with Wolf Den reserved seating. Full moon bidders beware.

Daffodil Days

Thousands of daffodils are coming to the Vineyard on Tuesday, as part of an annual fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society.

Boxes containing 11,000 flowers will arrive Tuesday morning at 10:15 a.m. on the ferry. A team of core volunteers will meet at the Steamship Authority in Vineyard Haven to collect and then distribute the budding flowers.
