The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has a few nice animals who need good homes. If you are a black cat lover, you must come soon to see our collection of black cats and kittens. The most striking of these is Burt, who should be named Star because he has a tiny white star in the middle of his forehead. He also has a perfectly symmetrical white mask. He is a loving five-month-old kitten that sits up and begs to be held, with a purr that will melt your heart. Brady and Leonie are two black and white five-month-old kittens who are just as special.

In the American Legion Hall in Edgartown, there are two wall displays of town veterans who have served their country. One is new, the other is old. The one that is old shows more than 100 photographs of town veterans who served in World War II. The pictures are black and white and in remarkably good condition for their age. They are formal in nature and reflect a time when Edgartown was a smaller place, close-knit and personal.

The second photo mural is different. It was just recently completed and includes plenty of space for more faces.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is declaring November adopt an elder shelter cat or dog month. The shelter has wonderful, sweet older cats who desperately need homes. Adoption fees will be waived for anyone who wants an older cat to love. They are: Eve, a beautiful black stray from the Sweetened Water Farm area who is microchipped but evidently never registered and was obviously someone’s pet; Daisy, a sweet, big gray kitty; Rex, a female black and white; and Vickie, a tabbie and white, wonderfully gentle cat who just loves people and other cats.
