This year’s Spirit of the Vineyard Award will be presented to Greg Orcutt on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at The Grill on Main in Edgartown from 4 to 6 p.m.

“Greg Orcutt truly embodies exactly what the Spirit of the Vineyard Award is all about,” a press release from Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard said. “This award recognizes and honors members of the Vineyard community for the depth and breadth of their volunteer efforts on the Island. This is the story of a native Vineyarder who has contributed so much of his time and energy to make the Island a better place for all who live here . . . and he has done it quietly, in an under-the-radar manner, seeing a need and stepping up to help meet that need.”

Born in Edgartown, Mr. Orcutt’s mother was a nurse at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and his grandfather owned a successful oil business in Edgartown. He attended the Edgartown School and graduated from the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School as class president. After graduating from Stonehill College and working off-Island, he returned to the Vineyard as general manager of WMVY.

His volunteer work on the Island includes his past board membership on Big Brothers Big Sisters and he is a current board member of Habitat for Humanity. He is an active volunteer for the Red Stocking Fund. “Red Stocking could not do what it does without Greg Orcutt’s tireless efforts at fundraising,” Hospice said.

He is a member of the West Tisbury finance committee and was a founding member of the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard, which he now serves as vice-president.

“Greg Orcutt does his part willingly, cheerfully and selflessly. He sees what needs to be done and steps up to the task, solves the problems, and does it all without seeking any personal recognition,” Hospice said.

All are welcome to attend the event for Mr. Orcutt on Wednesday. There will be a cash bar and refreshments will be served.

Greg was a board member during my 3 year tenure as Executive Director with Habitat for Humanity of Martha's Vineyard. It was an honor working with such a thoughtful, unselfish and compassionate advocate for our community. Anyone who knows Greg, understands that he is a rolling stone which gathers no moss. He is always busy investing his time and resources to benefit others. If any one person embodies the "Spirit of the Vineyard", it's our friend Greg Orcutt.

On behalf of all the Vineyard lives that you have touched and improved - Thank You!
