Alessandra Marisa Boniface, daughter of Paul and Marisa Boniface of Essex Fells, N.J., and Edgartown, was married to James Michael Hagerty, son of Robert Hagerty and Barry Nevin of Edgartown, on Saturday, Sept. 10, at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Edgartown.
The Vineyard Nursing Association has announced the addition of a new and yet familiar face. Katie Ferreira, a 2000 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, will join 14 other nurses on the VNA staff.
Prior to coming to Vineyard Nursing, Ms. Ferreira’s worked at Rockville General Hospital in Vernon, Conn. and Cape Cod Hospital, where she gained valuable experience in the medical/surgical ward, the intensive care unit, a medical telemetry unit and the cardiac step-down unit.
Top Black Powder Shot
Michael Ferry took top honors at the Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club’s 2011 Black Powder Championship on Dec. 11. Mr. Ferry, who lives in Oak Bluffs, captured the modern firearm title for the second year in a row, and was also presented with the Bill Nicholson Award. Named in honor of Mr. Nicholson, a Civil War and primitive firearm enthusiast, the award has been given annually since 2007 to honor an outstanding black powder championship participant.
Dean’s List
Three Island residents — Margaret Hibbard and Taylor Stone of Edgartown and Alexander Dimovich of Vineyard Haven — have been named to the dean’s list at the Savannah College of Art and Design for fall quarter 2011. In order to be named to the dean’s list, students must earn a grade point average of 2.5 or above for the quarter.
Film Festival Honored
Those living on or visiting Martha’s Vineyard have long recognized the Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival as a particular gem. Each year Richard Paradise, the director and founder, programs numerous series of movies all year round, culminating in the four-day festival each fall. The films are always ones you can’t see anywhere else; foreign films being a particular specialty of the festival.
