KCT Concerts Has the Medicine
This weekend KCT Concerts gets going again with a show featuring Richie Stearns and special guests Willie Watson from Old Crow Medicine Show and Rosie Newton of the The Pearly Drops and the Evil City String Band. Now there’s a cool name for a band.
Shephard Fine ArtSpace in Oak Bluffs is hosting the first of what hopefully will not be the last exhibition of its kind. The show features artists with Island connections who are showing for the first time on the Vineyard. They include Colin Ruel, Rick Lazes, Jonathan Klenner, Dylan Sean Murray, and Percy 14e Wright.
Wind Festival Revisited
Too windy for a wind festival: that was the sad news last weekend. But, let’s face it, a kite wouldn’t have stood a chance against even the much milder than expected Irene visitation.
But now we are back to our gentle Island breezes and the wind festival is making another go at it on Saturday, September 3, at Waban Park. The festival begins at 11 a.m. and goes until dusk with kites, frisbees and all manner of wind powered flying contraptions, not to mention high spirits, soaring at the close of summer.
Dragonfly Fine Arts Gallery will host a Plein Air Invitational Painting Derby from Sept. 1 through Sept. 25 with a reception on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The Martha’s Vineyard Art Association (MVAA) is currently presenting oil paintings by Nancy Blair, photography by Emily Drazen, paintings by Ovid Ward, and a retrospective of artwork by the late Renee O’Sullivan. The exhibit runs through September 2 at the Old Sculpin Gallery located at Dock Street in Edgartown, next to the Chappy ferry.
Due to hurricane Irene, the reception for these artists was postponed to Thursday, September 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Space rock conjures up many images, most of which involve laser light shows and music as transport ships headed straight to Orion’s Belt or the nether regions of the Big Dipper. Pink Floyd took you there. So did Jim Hendrix, the Beatles (occasionally with songs like Flying which wandered far afield from just holding your hand), David Bowie and the Rolling Stones with 2000 Light Years from Home. But those are big name brands we’re talking about.
