Ending a four-month controversy, the Oak Bluffs selectmen voted Tuesday to lay off council on aging director Roger Wey.
The decision will be effective June 30.
Mr. Wey has been on paid administrative leave since February.
The town zoning board of appeals is considering whether or not to require the owners of Goodale’s sand and gravel pit to apply for a special permit to mine new areas of their property. A public hearing opened last week that saw strong expressions on both sides of the issue.

The manager of the Martha’s Vineyard Airport has been granted a medical leave for an undisclosed length of time. Commission chairman Norman Perry said Wednesday that he granted the leave request to manager Sean Flynn earlier in the week, before meeting in executive session with his board.
The board of health will continue a public hearing on whether to remove fluoride from town water. Board member John Campbell said he would make strong recommendations against fluoridation. Oak Bluffs is the only town on the Island that fluoridates its public water supply.
