STAY DRY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

We are writing to express our strong conviction regarding the so-called beer and wine issue in Vineyard Haven. Our conviction grows out of a good many years of experience and observation in a considerable number of communities where we have been associated.

REMEMBERING BILL HONEY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I was sad to read of the death of Bill Honey. During my time as superintendent of the Island schools (1970-1975), this gentle and thoughtful man was treasurer of the regional high school district. Even though he was president of the largest bank on the Island, he made the time to attend school committee meetings faithfully, and he was always available for advice.

I learned a great deal from him. Everybody trusted him. His quiet voice will be missed.

AVIAN FACTS GARBLED

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

The Gazette called me to seek information about the effects of wind turbines on migratory bird population for an article in the Sept. 11 edition. Unfortunately there was a missing synapse along the line as a good portion of the information printed had no bearing whatsoever to what I said.
