The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School has received approval from the state to officially close the early childhood education vocational program at the end of the next school year.

At the district school committee meeting Monday evening, Vineyard schools superintendent Dr. James H. Weiss presented a letter from the state approving the school’s plan to close the program. In order to close the program, the school had to ensure that any student already enrolled would be able to finish the program. There are currently six students enrolled.

On Wednesday morning, the jungle of hop plants at the end of Hopps Farm Road in West Tisbury stood 20 feet high, well above Alan Northcott’s head.

Atop a ladder he sliced the string connecting the vine away from the bamboo trellis that the hop plant had climbed along. Down below he handed the vine to the friends, neighbors and brewers who had gathered to help him harvest the hops, soon to be incorporated into an Offshore Ale one-of-a-kind brew: Hopps Farm Road Pale Ale.

After 35 years as chef and owner of his signature, classic French restaurant in downtown Vineyard Haven, Jean Dupon has put Le Grenier on the market.

“I love what I do, but I’ve had a good run,” Mr. Dupon said this week. “I just turned 69, I think it’s time for me to start relaxing a little.”

The restaurant will be sold along with its downstairs partner La Cave du Grenier. The asking price is $1.6 million for both the business and the two-story building. The restaurant went on the market in late August.

After spending years studying Lyme disease, Enid Haller and husband Sam Hiser opened the Martha’s Vineyard Lyme Disease Center last Thursday off Panhandle Road in West Tisbury.

The educational center provides pamphlets and books on Lyme disease, a list of so-called Lyme-literate doctors and individual consultations with Ms. Haller to talk about medical history, symptoms and steps to getting accurately diagnosed and treated.

“We are Lyme advocates, more than anything,” said Ms. Haller.
