The skies opened in the bottom of the sixth inning of the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks home opener against the Brockton Rox Tuesday night, suspending play with the score tied 2-2. The game will be continued at a later date when the Rox next visit the Vineyard Baseball Park on June 28.
The boys of summer are back in action tonight as the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks play their first home game of the season, taking on the Brockton Rox.
Students and families gathered at the Tabernacle Friday as nearly $947,000 in scholarships were awarded. The scholarships are part of a community-wide program that provides a much-needed financial break to seniors and post-graduates.

Dredging in Vineyard Haven harbor will be postponed until after Labor Day due to broken equipment. The project was scheduled to begin last week and be completed before July. Tisbury town administrator John (Jay) Grande reported at Tuesday’s selectmen’s meeting that the contractor, Barnstable County, had to repair their dredge, causing work to be pushed back.
“It certainly comes as a big bombshell to everyone to learn five days before they were supposed to start that the dredge won’t be operating,” dredge committee member Nevin Sayre said.
