As the second month of winter sports gets under way, all four regional high school varsity teams maintain their winning records, with boys’ basketball still undefeated. The boys play Bishop Feehan at home tomorrow at 3 p.m. Girls’ hockey will also be on home ice tomorrow, taking on Hanover/Cohasset at 12:30 p.m.

“It was a great year to be a reader,” West Tisbury librarian Beth Kramer wrote in an e-mail to the Gazette. Her choices for the year may be from different genres, but all are, said Ms. Kramer, “beautifully rendered tales that took you around the world and deep into the hearts of their characters.” Her list follows.

The girls move to a 3-1 record after taking down Sandwich 67-59 at home on Saturday and defeating Nauset 70-43 on Tuesday.

In 1992, Charlie Shipway took to the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, sailing in the Barcelona Olympic games as a representative of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The competition was world-class; the stakes raised to a near-peak. Mr. Shipway and catamaran captain Jean Brauer placed 22nd in the 22-boat field—somebody has to, after all.

For most, swordplay is a thing of childhood—playground duels with tree branches, plastic sabres accessorizing a Halloween costume.

Bring canned goods to the Martha’s Vineyard Arena today from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to midnight (with a break for the teams’ games against Bourne), and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In addition to the boys’ 6 p.m. game on Saturday, be sure to support the girls’ squad in their 1 p.m. match against North Quincy.
